TYPE 1 DIABETES

TYPE 1 DIABETES:

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that’s usually caused when body attacks its own insulin making cells which harm its ability to make insulin. Body sugar in the blood can not be moved into the cells to be used for energy , instead it will build us in the blood which could be very harmful and would lead to many complications.

1 diabetes usually occurs in children, young adults and teenagers.  It also can occurs in older adults. ONLY 5-10% of people has type 1 diabetes .

With no insulin or very little insulin type 1 diabetics or also known as insulin dependent will have to take daily insulin injections lifetime 24/7 , to control blood sugar levels as much as possible.

In summary, type 1 diabetes is not only a disease of childhood .  No one fully understand why it occurs in adults.  There’s nothing you could do to prevent it from happening.  You will have it for life , however it could be controlled with insulin, healthy eating and exercise.

TYPE 2 DIABETES

TYPE 2 DIABETES :

As discussed before diabetes is a condition that causes sugar level to go up in the blood .  Our digestive system breaks down food into sugar. Blood carries Sugar into cells and insulin will opens up the cells for sugar to get into the cells and be used for energy .

With type 2 diabetes ,glucose in blood cells  because cells do not use insulin effectively which has been know as being insulin resistance .Producing  Pancreas cells will cover the wasted insulin for short amount of time , however after a while pancreas cells will eventually wear out in which makes cells starve for energy .

Type 2 diabetes is an inherited genetic condition , which is highly caused overweight and obesity. It typically affects people over the age of 40, however now the number of  younger adults and children affected by type 2 diabetes is increasing.

Type 2 diabetes is also caused by the use of some medications or other medical conditions.

people with type 2 diabetes must take many steps to control blood sugar levels or also known as HYPERGLYCEMIA through diet, exercise, weight loss and checking blood sugar level throughout the day.

Type 2 diabetics can also manage blood sugar levels by taking proper medication and may need the help of insulin injections in severe cases.

In summary , in type 2 diabetes pancreas will be making insulin, but it won’t be making enough insulin. It is a manageable diseases to avoid complications , however it can’t be cured.  Once you develop type 2 diabetes, you will have it for the rest of your life.

How Do I Know I Have Diabetes?

HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE DIABETES????

Most common signs of diabetes:

  • Numbness in the hands and feet.
  • Sexual dysfunction.

Some diabetics may not have any symptoms.  Health care providers will be able to find out for sure after running some blood tests such as Hemoglobin A1C, checking FASTING blood sugar, and Glucose Tolerance Test.

EXAMPLE:

BLOOD TEST WITH OUT DIABETES PER-DIABETES WITH DIABETES
Hemoglobin A1C Less than 5.6% 5.7%_6.4% 6.5% or higher
Fasting Blood Sugar Less than 100 mg/dL 100_120 mg/dL 126mg/dL or higher

Factors may increase risk for Diabetes???

What is Diabetes?

  • Diabetes or also known as Insulin deficiency is a condition that occurs when sugar builds up in the blood in which body is not ale to use sugar the way it should.
  • Normally when we eat, carbohydrates in the food break down into sugar. The sugar goes into our bloodstreams. When there’s sugar in the blood , body will naturally create a hormone named “INSULIN” which is produced by pancreas. Insulin will help sugar get into body cells.
Insulin works like a KEY to open up the cells for sugar to get inside the cells . Cells will use sugar to create energy or it will get stored inside the cells for later use.
  • With diabetes , the pancreas may NOT make any insulin or not enough insulin. Then the sugar stays in the bloodstreams causing blood sugar levels to rise and cells don’t create enough energy.
